Litter-Free Sunday Market On Gaya Street

It’s official. The outdoor Sunday market at Gaya Street is litter-free. Kota Kinabalu mayor Abidin Madingkir who has declared it so says the city’s oldest thoroughfare joins 28 other clean areas after a concerted three-year campaign to get the 423 hawkers to put litter in its proper place – the rubbish bin. There are 52 of them, big and small, along the 400-metre stretch all paid for by the Gaya Street Vendors Association, according to its chairman Peter Yong Ket Yin.
